Every time you shoot a bathroom without a wide angle lens, somewhere a kitten is killed. Please, think of the kittens! It’s Christmas!

This beautiful looking shower and bathroom is another victim of a point-and-shoot camera that just can’t capture this kind of room properly. Always use a wide angle lens for bathrooms!

This awkward shot violates one of my main no-nos in real estate photography, and that is to never shoot a bathroom without a wide angle lens. They’re just not big enough to capture anything useful with a regular lens. Here the REALTOR® has tried to use the mirror to capture more of the room, but in trying to keep him or herself out of the picture (bonus points for that!) it ends up looking really awkward.

Wow! If there was ever a violation of my bathroom rule (don’t shoot one without a wide angle lens) this would be it! Not only is it cluttered and blurry (possibly jpeg artifacts due to compression), but it looks like the REALTOR® also forgot to turn on some lights.

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath-cave
What, was the power out when they shot these photos? Not only does this photo violate my cardinal rule of shooting bathrooms sans wide-angle lens, but you can hardly see anything!

Take Time To Reflect This Thanksgiving
Just another violation of Ayres Directive #1, involving a bathroom and a non-wide angle lens. Also, makes a star of the REALTOR® for shameless self-promotion by way of mirror reflections. Good one. Happy thanksgiving everyone! (Well, all us Canadians anyway.) Don’t worry, USA, yours will come soon enough.

Another Day, another violation of Ayres Directive #1. The REALTOR® managed to capture most of the bathroom by standing back, but with a wide-angle lens, he or she would be able to do that without including the walls and doorway in the frame.

Are Those Beer Bottles?!
Well first of all we have a direct violation of Ayres Directive #1 – A bathroom shot with a non-wide-angle lens. Anyone can see that there’s just no room in the frame to cram in an entire bathroom. Also, are those beer bottles on the tub?!

Another visit to the Shower of Power! I bet the buyers out there would be more intrigued by showing them the gorgeous bathroom that comes with this awesome shower! But then again, maybe that’s why this brand new condo is still sitting on the market.

The distracting reflection on the glass doors could have been avoided by opening them, or shooting from a different angle, but that is hardly the first problem with this picture. Unless the bathroom is large enough to accommodate an Olympic-sized swimming pool, it’s useless to shoot it without a wide-angle lens. All you get is walls and reflections which makes it look tinier than it already is.
