Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day #286

It's Clutterific!

It's Clutterific!

Wow. As I always say, it’s not my place to poke fun at the state of people’s homes on the Internet. However, I do believe that as a REALTOR®, it’s my job to let a client know when they need to tidy up the kitchen, and I won’t take pictures until it’s done. Other than that, one could argue that the better spot to shoot this kitchen would have been from the doors on the left of the photo.

I'm not a FAN of this image...

I'm not a FAN of this image!

Everybody lives differently, and sometimes it’s hard to counsel a client to de-clutter the house before you list it, but I believe it is the agent’s responsibility to do so. In this case, just simply removing that fan that is stealing all the attention would have made a huge difference in presenting this property.

Effort, people! How much extra effort would it have taken the REALTOR® who took this picture to turn off the TV and computer monitor, move the TV tray-table, rolled up carpet, dumbbells, and shoo the cat away? Not much, but it would have improved this picture immensely!

Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day #198

Sit, Have Tea, Work Out.

Nearly every home has a room like this. A place in the house where you put everything that really doesn’t fit anywhere else. In this case, we’ve got music, fitness, and extra furniture, it appears. Th first problem with this photo is that it’s too dark. We also have no idea how big or small this room is, and it’s not very well composed. Sometimes, I’ll have a listing where every other room in the house looks perfect, but there’s one that just isn’t right. I usually leave that room out, or wait until the owner rearranges it after my suggestions.

Crooked Clutter

Crooked Clutter

This REALTOR® must be busy. He or she was in such a hurry to shoot the pictures for this new listing that nearly every one was crooked, cluttered, and poorly composed.

Clutter Close-Up

Clutter Close-Up

Too busy and too close is the problem here. It’s hard for the viewer to get an idea of the size and shape of this room. A better choice would be to de-clutter it a little, stand back, and also shoot at more of an angle to give some depth perception to the picture.

I "POSTED" This Picture To Show You All...

I POSTED This Picture For You All To See!

I think the problem with this picture is fairly self-explanitory.

Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day Labour Day Spectacular! #179, #180, and #181

Sept 1st, 2008

I apologize for the late postings, but my Labour Day weekend has been occupied with, well, labour. I’ve been kept busy with Projectzilla, which comes in the form of re-roofing my large workshop in the back yard. So, here are the latest horrible MLS Photos:

#179 - August 30th, 2008

#179 - August 30th, 2008

Did the REALTOR® interrupt the homeowner cooking dinner? There’s a pan on the stove and what looks like half of a meal on the right hand counter. Give the sellers some time to clean and de-clutter, it’s well worth the wait.

#180 - August 31st, 2008

#180 - August 31st, 2008

I bet there’s a dude laid out on the couch just out of the frame watching TV that the REALTOR® didn’t want to disturb.

#181 - September 1st, 2008

#181 - September 1st, 2008

What?! Chickens!? Hint: The listing this picture came from was not a farm or a rural acreage, but a house in the city. And this was the main photo for the property! I guess it comes with chickens.

Happy Labour Day everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.

Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day #174

August 25th, 2008

The distracting reflection on the glass doors could have been avoided by opening them, or shooting from a different angle, but that is hardly the first problem with this picture. Unless the bathroom is large enough to accommodate an Olympic-sized swimming pool, it’s useless to shoot it without a wide-angle lens. All you get is walls and reflections which makes it look tinier than it already is.
