Spotted in Sooke: New Definition of Mobile Home

I was driving home to Sooke last week when I saw this on the side of the road, just at the top of the Sooke-a-hala (the double lanes through Metchosin):

Although it’s quite common, I’d never actually seen a house being moved before. A popular solution to affordable housing, people will often buy a lot in Sooke or another location which is affordable, and then move a home on to a foundation they have built.

These houses come at a pretty good price. Sometimes, they’re even free. When a developer buys a piece of land which has a house on it, often the house is offered up for free to anyone who will come and move it off the property. This is a good way for the developer to save on demolition and removal costs, and for an interested party to get a home for next to nothing.

Anyway, I just thoguht I’d share it with you because it’s not something you see every day. The next day this house was gone, presumably on its way to its new location. Anyone know where it went?

If you have any questions about land in Sooke or the possibility of moving a house on to a lot, I’d be happy to help. E-mail me or give me a call at 250-885-0512
